Home remedies for eye inflammation

Inflammation can develop in any part of the eye, but generally speaking, the more the inner parts of the eye are affected, the more severe the consequences. However, for mild symptoms, home remedies can be tried with quite good results, meaning that it is possible to treat eye inflammation at home.

Treating an inflamed eye

When treating inflamed eyes, choose natural eye ointments and eye drops that contain birch blossom, calendula and calendula grass. So, treating eye inflammation at home is also possible with herbal compresses and creams with natural ingredients.

For a herbal poultice, these may be good: eyebright, birch blossom or calendula. Chamomile may also be effective for inflamed eyes.

Boil 1 teaspoon of herbs with 50 ml of boiling water, wait until it cools down. Strain and soak 2 cotton balls in it and apply it to your eyes 2 times a day!

Eye drops for eye inflammation

If home treatments are not enough, there are various pharmacy products that can help. In some cases, you may even need a nose test and a prescription for eye drops!

Conjunctivitis can also be treated at home with these herbs.

For eyebright, add a teaspoonful to 250 ml of boiling water and leave to stand for a few minutes. Then use this to cover the eyes. The same applies to calendula. Prepare a tea and after a 15-minute steeping, pour over the eyes. When treating an inflamed eye, make sure that you do not soak the cotton wool or handkerchief you have used again, as this can easily cause harm and increase the risk of reinfection.

Red eye can also be treated at home with honey. Honey has been used since ancient times for its antibacterial and antibiotic properties. It is also very useful in this case. Take three tablespoons of honey and bring it to boil along with two cups of water, then let it cool. You can then apply it as a poultice.

Even potatoes can be good against red eye at home. Make raw potato gratings and put them on the inflamed eye. It is one of the best home remedies for conjunctivitis.

Treatment of a drained eye

“I’ve got a wire in my eye!” is a cry that can be heard in many cases. Symptoms of a drained eye may include eye pain, flushing, swelling of the eyelids, redness of the eyelids, watering of the eyes, loss of visual acuity, itching of the eyes and redness of the skin around the eyes. It can often happen when the air conditioning is running too much or when driving with the windows down. In case the eyes are drained, you can apply the above mentioned measures. Chamomile compresses can be very effective.

A drop of eye-drop has got a draught in the eye

Special eye drop products are also available to treat dry eyes caused by drafts, such as drops that form a protective layer on the surface of the eye. If the irritation caused by drafts has led to inflammation in the eye, anti-inflammatory eye drops prescribed by a doctor can also be used. These can help reduce redness and irritation.

Home treatment for lace eye

The discharge or discharge from the eye is a completely natural process. It basically has a protective, nurturing function. However, if it is present in excessive amounts, it may be due to a disease or allergy. If you want to treat it at home, you can use the above-mentioned recipe for Eyebright. Here again, it is important to use a fresh cotton pad or tissue after each poultice to avoid further infection! Chamomile compresses for eyes can be excellent.

Raw potatoes can also be effective in this case.

Potatoes can also be effective for eyes, as they are probably one of the best home remedies for inflamed eyes. For eye inflammation, home remedies may be the following:
Wash a medium-sized raw potato thoroughly and cut two thin slices. Lie down and place a slice on the affected eye and leave it on for about 10-15 minutes.

It mainly helps reduce swelling due to the slices and also takes off redness. It can be applied several times a day. So, treating eye inflammation with potatoes is also possible.

Treating burning eyes at home.

If you experience a burning, itchy sensation, chances are you have dry eyes. There are several reasons for this. It is very common that the humidity is not at the right level, so the eyes dry out. But it can also be caused by staring at the monitor for
too long or not blinking enough. This can be treated with various herbal eye compresses, including calendula. However, it can also go away on its own if you drink enough water and let your eyes rest.

Home treatment for inflamed eyes after welding

Welding can also cause eye inflammation. This is a common problem, which is why pharmacists know by heart which eye drops to use in such cases. This means that the inflammation is relieved within a few days of applying the eye drops. It is also possible to treat inflamed eyes from welding at home. In such cases, it is worth trying raw potatoes or perhaps herbal poultices, but only if the condition is not severe! However, in the case of eye inflammation from welding, it is definitely worth showing it to a doctor, we should add.

Treating a haemorrhagic eye at home is more, with less success.

An old tried and tested method is chamomile compresses and drops. Make a good strong decoction of chamomile (the juice should be very dark) and drip it in
after cooling. If you apply a poultice, it is also important that you do not put the chamomile back into the container you used to apply the poultice. If this does not work, it is better to consult a doctor, as bleeding eyes may be an indication of other problems.

What about eyelid inflammation?

One of the most common causes of eyelid inflammation is allergies. This is followed by bacterial infection. Fortunately, it is possible to treat inflamed eyelids at home. Chamomile or eyebright poultices are also an option, as they can also be used to treat eye inflammation at home. You can also treat eyelid inflammation at home with aloe vera. Aloe vera helps in moisturising, thus preventing the formation of dry secretions and treating redness and swelling. To some extent, it is even possible to treat allergic eyes at home. And one of the best methods is to apply the juice of the regular aloe vera plant externally.

Treating eye tearing can be done at home.

Cold compression: cold compression can help to reduce swelling of the eyelids and reduce eye tearing. To do this, put a clean towel in cold water and apply it to your eyes for 15-20 minutes.

Avoid irritants: if you know what causes eye tearing (e.g. smoke, dust, wind), avoid them.

Prevention is the key

Protect your eyes from draughts and direct sunlight with sunglasses! Use only natural cosmetics for the face, free of allergens, additives and preservatives. Use only boiled water to clean the eyes to kill germs. Dip a cotton pad in it and wipe the eye towards the nose. This will prevent any pathogens from penetrating deeper into the eye.

Never rub the eyes!

Another important thing is that – especially when working on the computer – sometimes we forget to blink, so blink often! This will ensure that your eyeballs stay moist! In case of infectious conjunctivitis, wash your hands often, especially after touching your eyes.

Mrs József Varga

“I have been taking it for almost a month and I am very satisfied with its effectiveness. I often look at the display of my mobile phone or laptop, which is quite a strain on my vision. My eyes don’t get tired so quickly, my eyes don’t water. I used to take eye protection before, but it had less Lutein (20%).”
